Disaster and Climate Risk Assessment Findings Under Discussion with Local Authorities

Between August and October, significant progress was made under the project, with key developments across the participating communities:

1.     In the Charentsavan, Gavar, and Sevan communities, the findings of the risk assessments and proposed packages of climate adaptation and risk reduction measures were presented to local authorities. During the discussions, each community identified its priority measures from the proposed options: at least three at the community level and three for each settlement.

These prioritized measures have been incorporated into the assessment reports, which will soon be published on the official website of the Disaster Risk Reduction National Platform (ARNAP) Foundation.

2.    For these three communities, the project's financial expert developed implementation plans for two priority measures per community. These plans, along with the assessment reports and schematic maps of hazards, capacities, and vulnerabilities, will be provided to the local authorities.

3.    In the Baghramyan, Byureghavan, and Vagharshapat communities, the project team completed the entire data collection process using the full set of assessment tools. Draft assessment reports have been prepared and are currently being refined ahead of their presentation to local authorities.

4.    In the Nor Hachn, Hrazdan and Armavir communities, data collection is nearing completion, with only the focus group discussions, scheduled for November, remaining.

5.    In the Akunk community, secondary data collection and large-scale surveys among residents have been completed.

Looking ahead (November–January), the project aims to complete data collection across all participating communities, prepare the assessment reports, discuss the findings and proposed risk reduction measures with local authorities, and incorporate feedback from these consultations before finalizing the reports.

The assessments are being conducted using the Local-Level Risk Management methodology under the project “Climate Risk Assessment in Consolidated Communities of Armenia,” implemented by the ARNAP Foundation and UNICEF, with funding from the Austrian Development Agency (ADA).
